So, Steve got out of school early on Friday and he had been telling me for weeks how much he wanted to take us camping. I'm not an outdoorsy person, but thought it would be cool, to get away for a minute. So, Friday he comes home around 10:30am and we started packing our stuff to go camping for the night. Matthew was sooooo excited!! Matty and Steve LOVE the outdoors! So, he looked up a couple of places and in the end we ended up at Garner State Park, about 1.5 hrs west of San Antonio. On the way there we passed a little town called Castroville (that's where we took the pictures of German stuff). Anyway, we got to the camp at around 1 or 2 (I had to stop to eat) and pitched our tent. Later we went on a hike with the kids and had lots of fun with Matthew and Olivia. Olivia likes to be outside too, she just enjoyed the scenery while in her stroller. We hiked a couple of hills and then made it to the Fresco River where we played "Pooh Sticks". It's a game Matty saw on a Winnie the Pooh cartoon where you find some sticks and throw them in the river at the same time, and whoever's stick starts floating away the fastest, that's the one that wins. Anyway, it was a good workout and I took a ton of pictures, and then it was time to eat. We made some yummy hotdogs and roasted marshmallows, which was Matthew's favorite part! After dinner it got dark quickly - so much so that we tried putting the kids to bed but to our surprise it was only 6:30!!! It's funny that when you are away from internet, TV and other distractions how slowly time goes by!! It was really nice change though - I actually liked camping!! We spent some great quality time together and it got us relaxed enough to withstand a few more days of school before Thanksgiving vacation. We had so much fun and can't wait to do it again soon. Here are some picture of our camping adventure.
PS - it rained in the middle of the night (20% chance - whatever!) but the tent was indeed waterproof!
PSS - our idea of not setting up the inflatable mattress and just sleeping on the ground has now resulted in very sore necks and backs!
PSSS - There are "mountains" only 1.5 hrs away from San Antonio!

That looks like a lot of fun! I wish we would have gone camping at least once while we lived in TX! If we went right now in ID we would freeze to death at night!!
How fun!! You've rekindled a desire in me to go camping with our family! You guys are great. I love that you did that!! Go Gibbons!! :)
How much fun! I love all the camping pictures! I had to double check them a few times to make sure you didn't just photoshop yourself in! Way to go camping, even if it's not your favorite thing. I love the picture of you and Olivia! She has the cutest, biggest smile!
That looks great! WE'll have to get the specifics and follow your lead out there. We love camping.
Darling pictures...it looks like a bunch of fun. :) Sometimes, a small get away is much better than a big one.
Those are such cute pictures! I love camping and I'm glad you had fun. It took me a while to enjoy it, but now we love camping!
