So, since my mom & sis were only here for the weekend, we decided to go to a couple of places in Downtown SA. One of the places we ended up going was the SA Kids Museum. And I can just say that it was the best! If you haven't gone, you need to! It is so amazing even for adults because you will want to do all the things the kids are doing, and the kids learn SO MUCH! Matthew had SOOOO MUCH FUN!
Right now they have a Japan exhibit that is just so cool! For those of you who don't know, I'm sort of obsessed with Japan. One of our family goals is to take a trip to Japan after Steve finishes medical school. Asian culture just fascinates me!
Anyway, the museum is sort of set up like little movie sets, where playing pretend isn't so hard because they sorta make a little world for the kids to explore in. Matthew became a farmer (milked a cow and everything!), a sales clerk at a little market, an office worker, a dentist, flew and rode an airplane, & landed in Japan! There was so much stuff to do, that we just have to go back again for him to see and do everything in the museum. Anyway, the Japan Exhibit was perfect because, about a month or so ago we started talking about the different parts of the world. We also have a book that talks about were he could end up going when he serves a mission. And Japan is in the little story, so I started to tell him that in Japan people speak a very different language, and that they have a bullet train that is really fast. After, I told Matty about the train I got his complete attention, and now he says he wants to go to Japan!
So, while we were in the Japan exhibit I took the time to explain different things. Like what people eat, and how the books open from the back instead of the front because they have a different alphabet and read sort of backwards, etc... We even had "tea" and sat on the floor (after we took our shoes off, of course...). It was a great experience for Matthew and my little sis who is now fascinated by Asian culture.
Anyway, this is probably the longest post in history, but it was so much fun, I just had to explain everything! Enjoy, the pics!

Your post is so cute and I loved following the pictures with all the little descriptions. It was like a mini book. Sounds like so much fun. I want to go there now. Maybe I can take a kid from someone so I can have an excuse to go. HeHe. Japan would be a fun place to visit. Jamis and I had a layover in Singapore and never left the airport but totally fell in love with the Asian culture that we did see and want to go back at some point. We should make it a field trip for adults!
That looks like such an awesome museum! That's so cool that Matthew got to try so many different things. Your pictures also look so cute and I'm glad your kids had such a fun time. And I want to go to Japan too! Quintin is going to Japan for 10 days during his fourth year of dental school and I am so jealous!
What a cool children exhibit! I loved all the pictures you posted so I could feel like I went too!
By the way - you were right!
