Merry & Bright!
I love Christmas time! I love it more now that my kids are old enough to understand it and get excited with me! A year ago, I saw a candy colored Christmas idea in PARENTS magazine and it was full of diy decor for kids. I loved the idea of making our ornaments, and tree skirt that I made it a goal to craft some of the stuff in the article. This is the second time since Steve and I been married that we put up our Christmas tree! can you believe that?! we never decorate for Christmas because we go to family for the holidays, but this year, I decided to do projects to surprise the kids. I told Matthew our tree was going to be candy colors! he then told me he wanted to do a Dr. Seuss tree. He wanted this, because we watched "How the Grinch stole Christmas" and thought the trees where weird, and therefore he wanted one! So, we took some of the ideas in the magazine and just altered them to make it look like a "Dr. Seuss Tree" and he even help me make the ornaments. The total cost of the tree decor was a 15 dls! I decorated the whole tree for that much! I bought clear ornaments on sale (2 boxes for $3.50) cheap tempera paint to swirl Dr. Seuss colors into the glass ornaments and give them this "funky" effect. Had some lollipop ornaments that I bought when we first got married, and made a garland with chenille stems by linking them together in candy colors. The tree skirt was 5 dls and I made it with canvas and hot glued a ribbon around it & used left over paint to decorate some shapes on it. I have to say, that I took the Dr. Seuss theme and ran with it. I plan on making GREEN EGGS & HAM the morning after Christmas and watching "The Grinch" after breakfast. Not to mention that the kids now have Dr. Seuss pj's they will wear on Christmas night! I was totally planning to do this here in SA. We where going to stay here for the Holidays, but with the possibility that we might move far away, we wanted to celebrate in Dallas with our whole family before we are forced to break away from the them. But I still plan on the green eggs breakfast! And don't worry, the theme is just for fun, we still talk about the real meaning of Christmas! Anyway, it was a labor of love, and the kids love their Dr.Seuss tree!
