Steve here, posting as Jaz sleeps the night away...
Matthew's YMCA soccer league has started, and boy is it fun. 5 and 6 year olds running around in groups kicking every ball out of bounds. True joy.
Since Matt is a giant - i.e. tallest and most dense on the field (Mom 5'2'' and dad 5'11'' - what happened?!) -
Soccer has a special place in my heart - I started when I was 7 as a way to do sports and to not be a chunky little kid. It ended up teaching me a ton about teamwork, discipline, and hard work. It would eventually become my ticket to college and the reason I never had a job in high school. And it gave me big calves (too bad i didn't do a sport that would have given me huge biceps). But I digress...
First game last Saturday, the Tiger Bees (kids named it that b/c they are black and yellow and wanted to be the ferocious combo of tigers and bees) won 3-0, with Matthew scoring one of the goals. Fun to see, but his super-excited reaction was what was fun. Hopefully I can pressure him into intense workouts from this point forward, making sure that I can live my unfulfilled professional dreams through him.
